Sleep healthily and correctly: 5 sleeping tips and rituals
Sleep does not behave like a dog that comes when you call it. It behaves more like a cat that comes when it feels like it. (Nitschke)

Sleeping is not only an enjoyable way to pass the time in our lives. It is also extremely important for our wellbeing and our health.  If you sleep badly or not enough, it weakens the body, mind and spirit.

Sleep rituals not only help children to calm down and find deep, restorative sleep! Adults also benefit from regular rituals. What should we adhere to as adults to sleep well and start the day feeling fresh in the morning? In this entry, we give you 5 pieces of advice that lead to a good night’s sleep.

  • The perfect sleeping environment
Night light, the LED of the alarm clock, the mobile phone display? Ban the interfering sources of light from your sleeping environment, because the blue waves of these technical devices cause our brain to emit less melatonin. The hormone melatonin that is so important for healthy sleep is only formed when it is dark. If we do not have adequate melatonin, we suffer from sleep disturbances.
  • The right nutrition
Especially in hectic times, our organism uses up a lot of minerals and vitamins. Eat a lot of fresh vegetables, fruit and nuts – this provides important nutrients for all body cells. The consumption of foods rich in carbohydrates, for example, can have a negative effect on sleep quality. Caffeine can also be detrimental to the quality of sleep and prevent falling asleep quickly. Bananas, eggs, nuts or sour cherries are considered to promote sleep.
  • The right bed linen is also important
For your bed linen, choose natural instead of synthetic materials: traditional cotton is light and regulates temperature. Do you sweat easily? Then try a cover made of Tencel. This fibre is extracted from the raw material wood, is more absorbent than cotton, smoother than silk and cooler than linen. Do you love cosy warmth? Then warming duvets made of down or sheep’s wool are recommended.

Give yourself permission to take a break. It offers healing and beauty.

  • Write down your thoughts
We often can’t fall asleep because our thoughts are buzzing with things to do, worries and experiences of the day. These endless thoughts can cause stress and lead to disturbed sleep. Write down your positive experiences and thoughts of the day. Focussing on pleasant things makes you calmer and more contented. Our mindfulness calendar “A good plan” is also suitable for this. It includes many tips and suggestions for a more relaxed everyday life. Why don’t you try it out yourself during your next visit to Eschenhof.
  • Do sports!
This provides balance and contributes to healthy sleep. This is because sport increases the concentration of the happiness hormone serotonin in the brain and the concentration of the stress hormone cortisol is reduced. After sport, you feel contented and relaxed. Studies show that in particular moderate to intensive sport in the morning improves the quality of sleep. But caution: don’t do sport too close to bedtime – it’s best not to do heavy exercise after 18.00.

Sleep well at Eschenhof

So that you can sleep well and properly also on your holiday in Carinthia, we offer you many advantages for healthy sleep at our excellent hotel in the Nockberge. The first key point are the quiet surroundings amidst nature. In the middle of greenery, away from the road but still in the centre of Bad Kleinkirchheim, you can enjoy the peace and quiet and switch off. You can set out straight from the hotel into the “fitness studio of nature”, whether it is Nordic walking, hiking or biking – the Nockberge region is there on your doorstep! For water enthusiasts, there are two thermal pools in Bad Kleinkirchheim, as well as two pools at the hotel.

Our pillow and blanket menu – as already described in an earlier blog – also ensures a good night’s sleep. You can choose the right combination for you from five different pillows and blankets – suited individually to your needs! It is also possible to disconnect some of our rooms directly from the electricity network – this means there is no chance of interfering light sources and the notorious blue waves of technical devices!

Of course, we also take care of your sleep when it comes to cuisine. You can expect especially harmonised menus with selected ingredients that promote sleep, as well as an early dinner. Because we already start serving you our 5-course Slow Food menus at the restaurant from 6pm.
