Winter in every colour

Activities and excursion destinations in the Carinthian winter

Who says that winter always has to be white? Around the Eschenhof you not only glide down the slopes, but also slide down the longest water slide in Carinthia into the thermal water - and with the Kaiserburg Bob or the Nocky Flitzer right into the valley! Fancy a change from skiing fun? Here are our tips for alternative winter activities in Carinthia.

Therme St. Kathrein
THE SPA-RADIES FOR FAMILIES

The St. Kathrein family and health spa, only a 5-minute walk away, has the largest water world and longest water slide in Carinthia. What is more, there is a varied children's programme, ranging from mermaid swimming and taster course diving lessons to action sessions with the water jet.

Thermal Römerbad Spa
RELAX LIKE THE ROMANS

The Thermal Römerbad is only a 20-minute walk from the Eschenhof. Soaking in the 34 °C thermal water, you can watch the hustle and bustle on the slopes in winter and the hikers in summer. 13 saunas and daily special infusions guarantee relaxing moments even in grey weather.

Heidi’s Schneealm
UNIQUE CHILDREN'S SKI AREA AT A LOFTY HEIGHT OF 1,800 METRES

The Heidi-Alm ski park at the heart of the Nockberge mountains is the insider tip among the family ski areas in Carinthia. There are two T-bar lifts and there is no crowding on the slopes. But the highlight is Heidi's Schneealm, where Heidi and Peter watch the children carve and descend. On skis, toboggans or snowtubes, they whiz past Schnucki, Josef and the Alm-Öhi. Comfortable deckchairs also invite parents to take a break and relax.

Turracher Höhe
WINTER WONDERLAND FOR EVERYONE

The Turracher Höhe is a diverse winter paradise with slopes up to 2,200 metres, idyllic natural cross-country ski trails, winter hiking routes and the Turracher See, which becomes a huge ice rink in winter. The panorama cable car takes you up to 2,000 metres above sea level in comfort, where the rounded peaks of the Nockberge mountains dominate the horizon. You can always whizz back down to the valley on the Nocky Flitzer dry bob-sleigh run.

Pyramidenkogel viewing tower
CARINTHIA FROM ABOVE

The world's highest wooden tower, standing proud at 100 metres high, can be seen from far and wide above Lake Wörthersee. From the three viewing platforms you can enjoy probably the most extraordinary view over Carinthia's snow-covered lake landscape. If you want to be adventurous, the highest enclosed slide in Europe will take you back down to the bottom.
